Neither seem to know what a 2nd voice is from the scan read even though the second voice notes are cue size noteheads.įrom this particular scan I've decided that it just is beyond what either can do, and that scanning and correcting would be more complicated than just typing it in from scratch. In both programs, the second voicing is mangled. SmartScore picks up all that header text, but characters are missing and it is just a mess. No title, credits or suggested registration, just blank space. Photoscore doesn't pick up any of the header text at all. On this one, both of the programs mangle the non-lyric text a bit, but in different ways. I use two different scans, one is a leadsheet that has both melody and right-hand second voicing for a counter melody or melody enhancement. The other will be in scanning in full organ sheet music, adding the chord symbols if missing, and then stripping out the right hand/pedal staves to simplify the score to my way of playing. One will be scans from fakebooks to enhance the formatting and possibly adding in some things to the score. There are two basic project types that I will be working on. Well, since it seems either no one has tried both, or they are too busy with Christmas things, I'll post some results of comparison that I have fiddled with. PhotoScore has a cleaner interface, but is limited in what file formats it reads. So far in my looking at them it appears that SmartScore has more file versatility in saving and loading, but the interface is a bit busy. Has someone here used both of these products and can make comments concerning them, especially their relative strengths in reading scans.
